US Summer Scholars join the British Studies Summer Programme
For 20 years ACS has partnered with the British-American Business Council (BABC) to provide 22 scholarships each year for high school students with limited financial means across America to access an educational enrichment programme at ACS Cobham in the UK.
Since the first scholarship student from Washington, DC joined the programme in 1998, ACS has welcomed over 300 young people at our Cobham campus. We are now looking to award 40 scholarships per year to students whose lives would be transformed through the programme but would otherwise be unable to access without support from generous donors.
ACS aims to raise $1m in donations from our alumni and friends community towards a new scholarship fund to support 200 of the most talented and dedicated American students, regardless of their background. Scholarships will give students the support they need to help them realise their full potential.
Students join the Scholarship Programme after their junior year applying locally through the BABC Chapters. Scholarships include the course fee, travel, residential and subsistence costs. The programme enables the students to study European History, English Literature, Art, Theatre and British Studies supporting and extending their high school curriculum.
Scholarship students have come from across America including New York City, Baltimore, Washington, DC, Miami, Charlotte, Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Dallas and Los Angeles.
Historically, the scholarship programme has been co-funded by the ACS International Schools Foundation and British-American Business Council affiliates as the British Studies Summer Programme. We’re proud of this association and the life-changing experiences it’s brought to hundreds of young people from across America.
In the future we are looking to extend the programme outside of America with international partners.
