The latest news about our humanitarian project and the upcoming events, trips and our supported scholars.
Project Nepal is now in its ninth year at ACS Egham. The Project has supported and funded 3 different schools in Nepal by improving their facilities with new classrooms and toilet blocks, donating a large number of educational resources for teaching and play, teaching English and setting up partnerships with the Nepali community.
Shree Bhunwaneshari Basic School, Panchkal, Nepal
We have been working at Shree Bhunwaneshari Basic School in Panchkal since 2019. Project Nepal has built two school buildings at the school consisting of six classrooms and a third building for a toilet block. We plan to complete the final part of the construction project in Spring 2023 with a boundary wall for the safety and security of the students. We will level the rough ground surrounding the buildings to create a play area for the Nepali children and finally we will paint the exterior of the buildings and interior with colourful murals.
ACS high school students will travel to Nepal during the Spring break of 2023. The students will experience an amazing culture while developing their commitment to service and social justice. While in Nepal, ACS students will have the opportunity to socialise and play with the Nepali students and go into the classrooms to assist in teaching English. ACS students will work alongside local workers to complete the construction of the final phase. The preparation for the trip and the trip itself is an opportunity for ACS students to become aware of an individual’s ability to affect change and recognise that their attitude and actions can stimulate others. They develop skills of independence, responsibility, teamwork, endurance, and problem-solving.
Scholars
Project Nepal supports 23 Nepali scholars to go to college or university. Two of these scholars are studying for their MBA. The scholars are studying a variety of subjects such as: business, education, law, forestry,
biotechnology, technology, management, radiography, humanities, culinary arts, and hospitality. The scholars are all from low-income families facing many financial challenges and daily life struggles. However, they are also ambitious young people with their own hopes and dreams for a good future for themselves and their families. Project Nepal’s support will enable them to have more opportunities and financial security in the future.
Project Nepal is completely reliant on staff and student volunteers and funds raised through the various fundraising events throughout the year. Without this support, we would not be able to provide this essential and vital support to our young Nepali friends.
